Accomplishments

State

  • Chaired OEA’s Budget Committee in reduction of OEA’s deficit.
  • Oregon Educator Benefits Board, Vice Chair (OEBB).
  • Supported new organizing efforts in Oregon.
  • Reformed and improved OEA’s accounting practices.
  • Ensured the Racial Equity Director became a member of the OEA Budget Committee with full voting power.
  • Added climate and environmental legislative language to our legislative policies. 
  • Increased union membership across the state.
  • Refreshed and modernized the OEA Foundation logo to strengthen brand identity.
  • Improved OEA Foundation guidelines to center equity in funding decisions.
  • Updated the grant process to enhance data tracking and accountability.
  • Streamlined accounting practices to align with current nonprofit standards.

Local

  • Bargained successfully for a 5% annual pay for Multilingual members of Clackamas ACE.
  • Created a diversity board position for members of Clackamas ACE.
  • Bargained successfully for a 3.7% annual salary increase.

NEA Director 2017-2020

  • Successfully advocated to the former NEA President, Eskelsen García, to publicly condemn the previous administration’s decision to rescind established policies protecting immigrants and people of color in the higher education system.
  • Successfully lobbied for additional funding for education as part of the American Rescue Plan with members of congress: to hire more teachers, paraeducators, custodians, acquire more PPE, improve ventilation, HVAC systems, provide free meals and assistance for homeless students.
  • When ESPs, college faculty, classified, and other non-teaching positions were excluded from the vaccination priority list, I successfully advocated to the NEA President, Becky Pringle, to include them in the recommendations for vaccination priority.
