NEA Director 2017-2020
Successfully advocated to the former NEA President, Eskelsen García, to publicly condemn the previous administration’s decision to rescind established policies protecting immigrants and people of color in the higher education system.
Successfully lobbied for additional funding for education as part of the American Rescue Plan with members of congress: to hire more teachers, paraeducators, custodians, acquire more PPE, improve ventilation, HVAC systems, provide free meals and assistance for homeless students.
When ESPs, college faculty, classified, and other non-teaching positions were excluded from the vaccination priority list, I successfully advocated to the NEA President, Becky Pringle, to include them in the recommendations for vaccination priority.
